Over on The Library Adventure, two of our writers have put together their list of favorite Newbery Medal Winner books. As I was editing them, I made notes to check out certain books. So I decided to put together a checklist of all the Newbery Medal Winner books to print off for each of my kids. It is named after 18th century bookseller, John Newbery. The purpose of the medal is to encourage original creative works for children. The Newbery Medal has been awarded annually since As I put the list together, I was surprised by how many I remembered reading.

I have read many of the books on these lists over the years and have been pleased with the selections. Many of them are now considered great classics. We have read a lot of these in our homeschool, and many of them are on our list to read this year as well. Hopefully this will inspire us to read more of them and to have a better idea of some good books to look for at the library. I was also curious to know how the books are chosen and found the criteria on the ALA website.
