Tribe of Mic-O-Say - WikiVisuallyThe Tribe of Mic-O-Say serves as a leadership enhancement program of the Heart of America Council designed to help the Heart of America Council fulfill its mission of preparing the young people of Eastern Kansas and Western Missouri to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Mic-O-Say accomplishes its purposes by affording members ongoing opportunities for introspection on Scouting values as well as practical application of those ideals. The program is focused on boys who have shown leadership abilities through specific achievement and growth, and provides them with a distinctive lifelong direction. The program is energized by memorable customs and traditions. Adult leaders are brought into the Tribe so that they may interpret and encourage the use and application of those principles in the lives of boys. They will stand tall within their communities as examples of unselfish service and of willing leadership. The Tribe of Mic-O-Say.

Writerfella here -- When writerfella was growing up, Natives in Oklahoma were not allowed membership in the Cub Scouts or the Boy Scouts, which were all-Caucasian. Upon entry into the USAF in , a background questionnaire actually asked if the recruit was or had been a member of the Boy Scouts of America or, if not, why not. The Boy Scouts were segregated and discriminatory. But we Indians formed our own group, The Boy Troopers. We wore 7th Cavalry uniforms, danced the White Man's dances, and learned to read street signs so we could find our way around his cities. An OSI lieutenant gave writerfella a severe talking to later, but then the man did say it was funny

The Tribe of Mic-O-Say is an honor camping program, based upon the intensification of the principles and ideals of Scouting. Its purpose is to provide recognition for boys who have demonstrated and proven their devotion to Scouting even beyond the extra mile. It is a boys program guided and inspired by adults.
Hardway Warriors entered the Tribe before their 18 th birthday, whereas Honorary Warriors and Honored Women entered the Tribe after their 18 th birthday. Working Paint for the Hardway Warriors and the order in which they are earned is as follows:. Firebuilder -- Orange Paint. Their responsibility is to build and tend all fires upon the altars of Friendship and Warmth, that we may have light for ceremonies. Tom-Tom Beater -- Green Paint. They beat the drums that send forth the call that will bring Tribesmen to ceremony, as well as beat the drums for the Dance of Joy.
